Substrate additives go in under the soil at setup — bacterial starters, mineral supplements and nutrient layers that seed a new tank and keep an established one from stalling out.

Bacter powders, mineral sticks, root tabs and bottom dressings. Added once at the substrate layer, they keep feeding roots for months.
