Substrates

Substrate is where a planted tank is won or lost. These are nutrient-rich aquasoils, inert sands and gravels that hold root tabs, buffer water and give stems something to grip.

UNS Controsoil, aqua soil, decorative sand and accent gravel — sized for everything from a 3-gallon nano to a 120P.

How much do you need? Around 1 litre of soil per gallon gives a 2–3 inch bed with a gentle slope to the back.
