Aponogeton Ulvaceus

Aponogeton ulvaceus is a distinctive bulb plant native to Madagascar, prized for long, translucent leaves with heavily undulating, wavy edges. Backlit, the leaves take on an almost glassy quality that few other aquarium plants match.

It grows large — a single mature specimen can fill the back corner of a mid-sized tank — so give it room and a nutrient-rich substrate to root into.

Care Guide

• Family: Aponogetonaceae
• Origin: Madagascar
• Height: 10–20"
• pH: 6.0–7.5
• Care level: Easy to moderate
• Lighting: Moderate
• CO2: Not required, but encourages larger leaves
• Growth rate: Fast

Note: Bury only the lower half of the bulb. Like most Aponogeton, it may enter a dormant period — leave the bulb in place and it will re-sprout.
