Pistia Stratiotes / Water Lettuce - Floating Plant

Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) is a classic floating plant that forms rosettes of soft, ribbed green leaves with long trailing root systems beneath. Those roots are the real appeal — they provide outstanding cover for shrimp and fry, and strip nitrates from the water column fast enough to noticeably suppress algae.

Equally at home in ponds and aquariums. In an open-top tank it will multiply quickly; thin it out regularly so it doesn't shade out plants below.
